Botox Q & A
What is BOTOX?
BOTOX is a safe, injectable medication that’s used to treat moderate-to-severe facial wrinkles and folds. It contains a highly purified form of botulinum toxin, which blocks nerve signals that make muscles contract.
When Dr. Ntaimo injects BOTOX, the targeted muscles temporarily relax and the wrinkles caused by those muscles are significantly diminished or eliminated. The result is a refreshed, younger appearance.
What wrinkles are treated by BOTOX?
Some facial wrinkles develop over years of repeatedly using the same muscles. Every time you frown or squint, for example, the same muscles contract to visibly show emotions.
Over time, the creases created by muscle activity become permanent, deep wrinkles. BOTOX is the best choice for treating these wrinkles because it targets muscles. By comparison, dermal fillers are only injected under your skin, where they restore volume and plump up wrinkles.
BOTOX is approved to treat moderate-to-severe:
- Crow’s feet
- Frown lines
- Forehead furrows
BOTOX may also be used to treat wrinkles that develop in your neck as well as bunny lines at the top of your nose.
What is Dysport?
Dysport is another injectable made from a different form of botulinum toxin. It works the same way as BOTOX, but it’s used to smooth moderate-to-severe frown lines between your eyebrows.
Will BOTOX or Dysport affect my natural expression?
Absolutely not. Dr. Ntaimo precisely targets a few specific muscles and makes several small injections. While the targeted wrinkle is minimized, the rest of your muscles are free to help you naturally express the full range of emotions.
What should I expect during and after treatment with BOTOX or Dysport?
Most BOTOX and Dysport sessions only take about 10-20 minutes, depending on the muscles being treated. Afterward, the injection sites may be slightly red, swollen, or bruised. Immediately applying ice often diminishes bruising.
The side effects won’t last long. In the meantime, you can cover them with makeup and you don’t need to take downtime. Dr. Ntaimo may advise you to avoid strenuous activities for a few hours.
When will I see results and how long will they last?
You’ll see the results in 7-14 days for BOTOX and about 7-14 days for Dysport. With both injectables, your results last up to 3-4 months before the treatment gradually wears off.*
You can get another treatment as soon as your results fade. Many patients find that they get longer-lasting results with subsequent BOTOX and Dysport treatments.
When you’re ready to diminish deep frown lines and crow’s feet, call Empowerment Med or book an appointment online.
